J. Cole is set to release a documentary to accompany the launch of his new album.
The 36-year-old rap star has revealed he s planning to release Applying Pressure: The Off-Season Documentary , which will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of his new album.
In a video clip on Twitter, Cole - who is poised to release his new album, The Off-Season , later this week - says: This is the moment that a lot of your favourite rappers hit a crossroad. Are you OK with getting comfortable if you leave no stone unturned creatively? I thought a lot about that - ‘Nah, I’m not cool with that’.
J. Cole is set to release a new movie, Applying Pressure: The Off-season Documentary today on YouTube. The new film is directed by Scott Lazer and will accompany the new album.
“This is the moment that a lot of your favorite rappers hit a crossroads,” Cole said in a clip. “Are you okay with getting comfortable? Did you leave no stone unturned creatively? And when I thought about that feeling, I was like, ‘Nah, I’m not cool with that. ”

Last week, Cole bypassed some of the wait for the album and released “i n t e r l u d e” to hold fans over. You can see the trailer below.

The clip opens with Cole chatting with 21 Savage, explaining that his new album was borne out of the same impulses that spurred his early mixtapes like 2009’s
The Warm Up a reaction to complacency and a desire to push himself further as an artist. While that first time around J. Cole was a hungry up-and-comer looking to prove something, as he discusses later in the documentary, he’s now at a different point in his career even though his motivation remains the same.
