Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg received the Innovation Project of the Year Award for its 3D printed home, the first-ever completed Habitat house in the nation using that technology.

The Virginia Center for Housing Research at Virginia Tech received a $500,000 grant to fund a 3D home building printer. Dr. Andrew McCoy, director at VCHR, says they’re using the innovation grant to transform affordable housing options in Virginia.

It's often said that there’s no place like home. But what if that home was built with a 3D printer? Only a handful of people in the U.S. currently live in these types of houses, but some believe this will soon change because of 3D-printing technology’s potential to reduce construction times and costs.
