VALID will provide an accurate correlation between the conditions at sea and in the laboratory by adapting innovative hybrid testing methodologies from the automotive industry.
The VALID initiative will develop a hybrid testing platform for accelerated testing, combining both physical and virtual environments. It is aimed at reducing product development process costs for harnessing ocean energy; it tackles the challenges of scaling up and minimises uncertainties.
VALID will use and adapt innovative hybrid testing methodologies, which are currently often used in the automotive industry, and apply them to three different case studies specific to the ocean energy sector. This new approach changes the perspective of accelerated testing. Establishing a precise correlation between ocean and laboratory conditions will make it possible to develop common test procedures and promote technological convergence across Europe.

VALID is a three-year H2020 project, which kicked off December 1, 2020, specifically designed to develop a Hybrid Testing Platform for accelerated testing with methodologies by combining the virtual and physical environment, reducing cost in the product developing process, tackling scaling challenges and lowering uncertainties once fully demonstrated in the ocean.
VALID will use and adapt novel hybrid testing methodologies frequently used in the automotive industry through three different case studies that are specific to the ocean energy sector. This will transform the fundamental approach to accelerated testing and establish the correlation between the ocean and the lab conditions, allowing for common testing procedures and convergence in technology across Europe.
