Catholics and in indeed many Malawians will remember the late Archbishop Tarcizio Ziyaye in many different ways. He was a shepherd who encouraged believers to have faith in God and serve Him selflessly.

He was also as leader who urged his flock to be good as God. On the other hand, he was a leader that wanted high degree of discipline among his priests and in the church as a whole.
Among priests, he was described as a disciplinarian. He did not tolerate nonsense or irresponsibility among his priests. He wanted priests to dress appropriately and do right things at the right time.

Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of the influential Catholic Church has appealed to President Lazarus Chakwera to be decisive in his administration to root out corruption in the country.

Mtumbuka made the appeal on Saturday at Civo Stadium in his homily during a requiem mass for the late Archbishop Tarcizio Ziyaye of Lilongwe Archdiocese.
Ziyaye died of cancer in Namibia at the age of 71. Church authorities disclosed on Saturday.
Mtumbuka said President Chakwera should avoid politics of appeasement and protecting wrong doers.
“The lesson from the life of Archbishop Ziyaye to you Mr. President is to have decisive leadership which does not protect wrong-doers because they come from same region or party with you,” said Mtumbuka.

The news that Archbishop Tarcisius Ziyaye of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe will be buried in Maula Cathedral has attracted mixed reactions with many questioning the rationale behind the move.
It all started when a video footage which went viral on social media showing people digging inside a Catholic Cathedral of Lilongwe (Maula), specifically at St. Joseph adoration chapel
According to Catholic doctrines, a Bishop who dies while still in office can be buried inside the church or at a special resting place specifically prepared for Bishops.
