APAF 2022 is curated by Cox Architecture director Christina Cho and Architecture Media associate editor Georgia Birks, with the interdisciplinary program based primarily in Brisbane and satellite events being held in Queensland’s regions as well as in the Asia Pacific.

Luis Othón Villegas-Solis received a Master’s Degree in Design Studies from Harvard University in 2003 and a degree in Architecture from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in 1997. He is the founder of LVS Architecture, a firm that explores the connections between behavioral psychology and built spaces. His firm aims to transform sensory experiences in users through design and architecture. Luis Othón has been a guest speaker at several national and international universities such as NewSchool of Architecture and Design, Harvard University, School of Visual Arts, Pratt Institute, among others. This year he was selected to present his research work on a Neuroarchitectural Interpretation System at the Neuroscience and Architecture Symposium of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, and the ANFA Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture in La Jolla California.

The AJ 40 under 40 architect is director of Belfast-based Studio idir. Her recent PhD thesis explores the role architects play in places of conflict
The director of Belfast-based Studio idir, Aisling Rusk, 38, studied in Aberdeen before moving to Cardiff to complete her Part 2 studies. She then gained her Part 3 in Edinburgh before returning to Belfast to do a PhD at Queen’s University, which she completed this year.
Her PhD thesis, presented at the London Festival of Architecture Symposium on Boundaries last year and which informs the social dimension of her practice, explores the role that architects play in places of conflict. Comparing Israel and Palestine with Northern Ireland (the place in which she practices and hails from), Rusk’s spatial theory explores ‘margins and boundaries as places of opportunity and possibility’.
