A grieving Alabama pastor and his wife called on residents who witnessed the fatal shooting of their daughter in a public Birmingham park on Easter Sunday to come forward and help the police catch her killer.
Areyelle Yarbrough, the 32-year-old daughter of the Rev. Michael Yarbrough of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church and his wife, Sonya, was shot in the head at Patton Park at about 7 p.m. on Easter. Five other victims, ages 21, 17, 16, 15, and 4, were also wounded. The 16-year-old boy was shot in the right hip while another female was shot in the chest.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The parents of a woman killed in that Easter Sunday shooting at Patton Park continue to grieve the loss of their daughter and now feel called to speak out against the gun violence that claimed her life.
“I’ve yet to cry. It hasn’t hit me totally yet,” said Michael Yarbrough.
His tone is heavy and his hands are crossed. His wife sits close by his side.

At least 17 people have been shot in the city of Birmingham – seven of them fatally – in the past week and Police Chief Patrick Smith on Thursday vowed to get justice for each and every one of the victims.
“Over the past few days, the city has been completely devastated as we’ve witnessed unimaginable acts of violence committed by members of our community,’ Smith said.
“I stand before you with a very heavy heart, because I know that this is useless violence that has plagued many of our young adults and simply did not need to happen.”

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - One of the younger victims in that Easter Sunday shooting at Patton Park continues to recover at home.
15-year-old Lakiyah Luckey was shot in the hand and leg. She was one of 5 young people injured. Her hand is bandaged so much you can only see the tops of a few fingers and you can see a huge bandage on her leg. She had to have surgery and may require additional surgery because doctors couldn’t remove the bullet in her leg yet.
