Facebook announced on Wednesday that it had disabled accounts it said were being used by the Palestinian Authorityâs Preventative Security Service (PSS), its internal intelligence organization, to spy on political opponents, journalists and human rights activists.
âToday, weâre sharing actions we took against two separate groups of hackers in Palestineâa network linked to the Preventive Security Service (PSS) and a threat actor known as Arid Viperâremoving their ability to use their infrastructure to abuse our platform, distribute malware and hack peopleâs accounts across the internet,â said Facebookâs Mike Dvilyanski, head of Cyber Espionage Investigations, and David Agranovich, director of Threat Disruption, in a statement.

“Today, we’re sharing actions we took against two separate groups of hackers in Palestine a network linked to the Preventive Security Service (PSS) and a threat actor known as Arid Viper removing their ability to use their infrastructure to abuse our platform, distribute malware and hack people’s accounts across the internet,” said Facebook’s Mike Dvilyanski, head of Cyber Espionage Investigations, and David Agranovich, director of Threat Disruption, in a statement.

Facebook announced April 21 that it dismantled two Palestinian hacking networks one of them apparently tied to Palestinian intelligence.
The social media giant said one group was linked to the Preventive Security Service, which is the intelligence service of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in the West Bank. Their activity originated in the West Bank and focused on the Palestinian territories and Syria, and to a lesser extent Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon and Libya, according to Facebook s report. Syria and Lebanon have large Palestinian communities.
