LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has finalised the digital policy for newspaper websites having given in to the long-held demands of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE).
According to a CPNE press release issued on Saturday, the minister expressed his condolences over the death of the council’s president Arif Nizami while talking to members of the council.
Mr Chaudhry said that summary of the digital policy would be presented before the federal cabinet’s meeting next week for approval.

Renowned journalist Arif Nizami passes away

LAHORE: Seasoned journalist and Editor of the daily “Pakistan Today” Arif Nizami passed away here Wednesday after being hospitalized for two weeks, the family sources confirmed. He had suffered a heart attack and was admitted to a private hospital in Lahore.
Arif Nizami was the son of Hameed Niazi, the founder of the Nawa-i-Waqt. He had served as the caretaker minister for information and postal services during former caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso’s Cabinet in 2013. He was also elected as the president of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE). Arif Nizami also remained editor of The Nation, a sister daily of Nawa-i-Waqt. Later, he launched his own newspaper “Pakistan Today”. President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Arif Nizami and prayed for the departed soul.
