MediaTek announces Dimensity 9200 chipset with Arm Cortex-X3 and ray tracing

Taiwanese chip manufacturer, MediaTek, on Tuesday announced its newest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9200. MediaTek’s new SoC offers enhanced overall performance and power efficiency, as well as capability for both mmWave 5G and sub-6GHz. The Dimensity 9200 is fabbed on the 2nd generation TSMC 4nm process and is the company’s first chipset to use an Arm Cortex-X3 prime core clocked at 3.05 Ghz and based on the ARMv9 architecture. The chipset contains 3x Arm Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.85GHz and 4x Arm Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8GHz. Dimensity 9200 also features an Arm Immortalis-G715 GPU with a hardware-based ray tracing engine. The new GPU supports Variable Rate Shading (VRS), which doubles machine learning performance over the previous generation, and ARM Fixed Rate Compression (AFRC), which saves bandwidth. MediaTek is introducing the APU 690, an AI Processing Unit, on the upcoming Dimensity 9200 SoC which offers a 35% improvement over its predecessor. The chipset a
