Historically, the United States has done very poor job of post-conflict planning before and during conflicts. In order to be successful in a post-conflict setting there must be a sounddoctrine based on principles of process, principles of purpose, andprinciples of peace.
The U.S. military and its allies were poorly prepared to undertakepost-conflict operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. If the U.S. andits allies wish to meet future challenges more effectively, theywill have to provide innovations in education, operationalpractices, acquisition, and organization.
