Families of some of the 48 victims of the Stardust fire disaster have called for a state apology after the year-long inquest into their deaths in 1981 reached a verdict of unlawful killing.

The jury also found that the fire, the worst in Irelands history, started as a result of an electrical fault in an airing cupboard. More than 200 people were injured in the disaster.

Family and friends gathered at the Dublin Coroner's Court from mid-morning to hear the decisions.
