APA approves major lakeshore subdivision | News, Sports, Jobs - Adirondack Daily Enterprise

A marsh at the north end of Woodward Lake (Photo provided) The state Adirondack Park Agency board voted 9-0 with one abstension Friday to approve a permit for a major, 1,170-acre housing subdivision involving Woodward Lake in the towns of Mayfield and Northampton. Most of the comments backing the decision came during a Regulatory Programs Committee meeting that proceeded the APA’s monthly meeting. That committee voted 4-0, with one abstension to recommend approval to the full board. Commissioners said it was a “complex” project they ultimately decided in favor of. Commissioner Daniel Wilt felt the developer of the project went “over and beyond” regulations needed for a project that was begun two-and-a-half years ago with planning.

When the Senate kept Peter Hornbeck off the APA board

Capitol Confidential By Casey Seiler on December 28, 2020 at 3:00 PM The death Saturday of Adirondacks businessman Peter Hornbeck of an apparent heart attack after a hike with his family reminded some political insiders of the odd political circumstances a decade ago that allowed Republicans allied with certain members of the short-lived Democratic majority to block the environmental advocate from service on the board of commissioners of the Adirondack Park Agency. Hornbeck, an Olmsteadville resident whose company was known for its lightweight, easy-to-portage boats, was nominated to the APA’s 11-member board in early 2010 by Gov. David Paterson to fill the agency seat occupied by Lake Placid hotel owner Arthur Lussi, whose first four-year term had expired in June 2009.
