Arvind Kejriwal has challenged his arrest by the ED in the Delhi excise policy case. The Court recently hinted that it may consider whether he should be released on interim bail in view of the ongoing election season.

The ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21 after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him protection from coercive action by the federal anti-money laundering agency. He is currently lodged in Tihar jail under judicial custody.

The Delhi High Court dismissed a PIL seeking "extraordinary interim bail" for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is in judicial custody in connection to a money laundering case related to an alleged excise scam. The court imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on the law student who filed the PIL, stating it was "totally misconceived" and that the court cannot grant such bail to a person holding a high office.

An FIR was registered against Kumar and one other person by a head constable of the Uttar Pradesh police in 2007 under section 353 of the IPC — assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty.

The DoV stated that his appointment violated Central Civil Service Rules and was therefore considered void ab initio.
