LG Energy Solution has signed a five-year supply deal for lithium hydroxide from Germany-headquartered Vulcan Energy Resources, which aims to establish carbon emissions-free extraction facilities. 

A Massachusetts startup has an innovative method for recycling lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles. The company says the recycled batteries are cheaper and perform better than new ones. They're less polluting, too.

Ascend Elements, based in Westborough, Massachusetts, created a process that shreds used batteries and turns them into cathode shells that can be turned into new electric vehicle batteries.

Westborough-based Battery Resourcers, a lithium ion battery recycling and manufacturing company, is changing its name to Ascend Elements. the company announced Wednesday.
