Three Southland Korean War veterans were honoured with memorial plaques and peace medals by the Republic of Korea’s ambassador to New Zealand. Ambassador to New Zealand, Sang-jin Lee, met with three Southland veterans who were part of the United Nations force during the war (1950-53). “New Zealand was one of the first countries to respond to the United Nation’s call for assistance,” Lee said. “As a Korean ambassador, to express gratitude to those people [war veterans] in person is one of my priorities.

The couple killed in a crash this week have been described as loving grandparents and hardworking Southlanders.
Kareen and Jim Malcolm, of Invercargill, died after their motorcycle and a milk tanker collided on the Riverton-Wallacetown Highway (State Highway 99), between Taramoa Rd and Price Rd, on Monday.
