Dr Samoon reviewed district wise progress of these projects and cautioned the concerned officers against any laxity towards quality and timely completion of these development projects of vital significance. He instructed them to complete all pending formalities, if any, saying that there should be zero tolerance towards delay in completion of these projects.
He stressed upon the concerned authorities to offer latest courses to the aspirants as per industrial demands so that they can get benefitted and become job provider rather than job seekers.
Director SDD informed the meeting that 20 languishing projects have been sanctioned, of which, 10 have been completed while 10 projects are under execution. He also informed that 10 language laboratories have been established at Government Boys Polytechnic Jammu, Government Women Polytechnic Jammu, KGP Srinagar, Government Polytechnics Reasi, Kathua, Samba, Anantnag, Budgam, Ganderbal and Kulgam.

Principal Secretary said that under a joint venture between administration of Jammu and Kashmir and Tata Technologies (PPP mode) an investment of Rs. 361 crore has been made in JKUT to train the students in robotics, electric vehicle manufacture, industry professionals and promoting entrepreneurship. It was informed in the meeting that Centres for Invention, Innovation, Incubation, and Training (CIIIT) have been established at Government Polytechnic, Bikram Chowk, at a cost of Rs 181.56 crore and at Government Polytechnic College, Baramulla at the cost of Rs 181.57 crore. The measures are coming at a time when the dynamics of industry requirements are changing rapidly due to continuous advancements being made in today’s global technological era’, he added.
Unemployment on decline in J&K
Amid the pandemic, over 5,000 youth in Jammu and Kashmir have been provided job offer letters by the private sector during placement drives conducted in the year 2020, in different parts of the Union Territory (UT).
When the entire country, including the UT, was fighting the deadly Coronavirus, job fairs and placement drives were launched in J&K to provide employment to the pass-outs of different technical institutes. Multiple placement drives and job fairs were conducted last year and near about 5000 polytechnic and ITI pass-outs were provided job offer letters in private sectors , Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, informed during a meeting to review the functioning of the Skill Development Department.

Congratulating the officials of CIIIT Jammu and TATA technologies, the Lt Governor said that the promise that was made by him on December 7, last year, during the inauguration of CIIIT Baramulla for speedy completion of the Jammu centre, has been fulfilled.

The Principal Secretary recognized that job fairs are the modern day trends adopted by all the institutions who have established placement cells. He said placement cell would assist the skilled youth to fetch jobs at the outset of their training programmes.
He emphasised that every institution should upgrade their courses and curriculum as per the standards required by the private and public sectors.
Dr. Samoon told Founder Director STIC INFOTECH to promote other skill programmes like plumbering, woodcarving etc across the length and breadth of the Union Territory in several capacities which would contribute to the development of J&K.
