Nagpur: Taking advantage of the fact that gram panchayat elections are not contested on party symbols, all the four major political parties of the state – Congress, NCP, BJP and Shiv Sena – claimed to have won maximum number of panchayats in Vidarbha. Over 3,800 panchayats had gone to the polls on January 15.
In Nagpur district, both Congress and BJP claimed to have won in maximum number of panchayats. District Congress president Rajendra Mulak claimed that his party had won 83 panchayats out of 129 while BJP had won in only 25. According to Mulak, NCP had won in only 14 villages while Shiv Sena’s figure was 5. Other parties and independents had won in two panchayats.

A case was on Sunday lodged against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee after he stoked a controversy by bringing up Sita, Ram and Hathras rape victim at a rally.
While addressing a rally in West Bengal on Saturday, the TMC MP claimed that Sita told Lord Ram it was luck that she was abducted by Ravana and not by his “
chelas” or else her fate would have been the same as the Hathras victim. The video soon went viral on social media.
Following Kalyan Banerjee’s controversial comments, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) member Ashish Jaiswal filed a complaint against the TMC MP.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], January 11 (ANI): A complaint has been filed against Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Kalyan Banerjee at Golabari Police Station in Howrah district of West Bengal on Monday for his alleged derogatory remarks on goddess Sita.
In the written complaint accessed by ANI, the complainant one Ashish Jaiswal said the language used by Banerjee in the video clip of the incident, which he received on his phone, was insulting and humiliating for religious Hindu sentiments of crores of people in the state and in the entire country.
