The Ashley Community Forest was created through the collaboration of the Alliance for Vermont Communities, Vermont Housing and Conservation Board and the Vermont Land Trust.

Sharon residents pass budget, OK community forest land Modified: 5/8/2021 9:59:26 PM SHARON — Residents approved all spending measures and advanced a two-town community forest plan in Town Meeting voting on Saturday. The $5 million Sharon school budget passed, 212-82. Taxes are estimated to increase by 14.6 cents per $100 of home valuation or an additional $365 for the owner of a $250,000 home under the plan. Residents also voted, 264-36, in favor of a $1.69 million operating budget for the town, a 1.6% increase over the budget passed last year. And by a vote of 230-72, they approved the Ashley Community Forest plan, voting to accept 150 acres of land from the Alliance for Vermont Communities. The town would manage the property along with the town of Strafford, which voted to accept its 106.7 acres of the forest at Town Meeting earlier this spring.

Residents also voted 399-70 to accept a donation of 106.7 acres of land in Strafford from the Alliance for Vermont Communities. Sharon voters later this spring will decide whether to do the same with 150 adjoining acres. Together they comprise the Ashley Community Forest. The proposed donation to the two towns includes $20,000 to seed a management fund. Both the $1.15 million town budget (434-29) and the $3.35 million school budget (388-77) easily passed.
