Shelters and rescues across San Diego County have been particularly hit hard by an uptick of abandoned huskies, including at Chula Vista Animal Services.
Similarly to animal shelters throughout San Diego County, shelters such as Chula Vista Animal Shelter are also at capacity with dogs, cats and bunnies available.
On Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, 11 local organizations confirmed their commitment to staying at zero euthanasia of healthy or treatable shelter pets, but warned that the overcrowding was becoming unsafe.
Shelters and rescue organizations including the San Diego Humane Society and Chula Vista Animal Services are sounding alarms over an influx of animals in their care.
A coalition of San Diego County animal welfare organizations Tuesday asked the community to save lives by adopting or fostering unwanted animals and spaying and neutering their pets, before a badly overcrowded shelter situation becomes even more urgent during the busier summer months.
