A local transient has been arrested after he allegedly attacked another man with a carpet razor.
Iowa City Police were called to Shelter House on Southgate Avenue at 9:45 Friday night for a fight in progress. An investigation determined that 56-year-old Shelter House resident Adrian Stokes had been in an argument with another man outside the facility when the other man tried to remove himself from the situation by going back inside. Stokes then allegedly produced a carpet razor and chased the man, attempting to injure him with the device. The man fell down during the pursuit, injuring himself.
Stokes was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 10:30 Friday night and charged with Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.

An Iowa City man with a long criminal history was arrested again Thursday after allegedly threatening people with knives.
Police say the incident occurred at Cross Park Place just before 3am. Officers were called to the building on reports of an intoxicated man threatening people. The victim of the alleged incident said that 61-year-old Russell Weston was drunk and yelling about an earlier fight he was involved in. Weston allegedly said he was going to cut the head off the person, and had two knives on him. Weston, who the victim said was acting extremely agitated and shouting, turned to him and asked him which one he wanted. Weston reportedly pulled out two sharp knives and held them in a threatening manner. The victim felt threatened, and believing his life was in danger, called 911. That caused Weston to flee to his room.

Allegedly firing an air pistol at another man during an attempted home invasion has led to charges against an Iowa City resident.
The alleged incident happened at a house on the 800 block of Gilbert Court just before 10:45 on the night of December 3
rd. Iowa City Police say 32-year-old Daniel Nichols of North Mount Vernon Drive arrived at the residence with the intent to physically assault a man who lived there. After pounding on the alleged victim’s door, police say Nichols hid in the shadows until the man answered, then tried to force his way inside the house. The man was able to quickly shut the door and lock it before Nichols could get in.

Robbing a convenience store at knifepoint has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.
Iowa City Police say 23-year-old Jonathan St. John of Juniper Drive was standing outside the front door of Delimart on Highway 1 West just after 10pm Wednesday. The clerk came outside to tell St. John the store was closed. That’s when St. John displayed a knife, pointed it at the clerk and demanded money from the cash registers. The clerk later told investigators that St. John gestured with the knife as if he were going to stab him, so the clerk fled the scene and called 9-1-1.
