The excitement on Twitter is palpable with counting of votes underway for the recently-concluded Assembly Elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and Assam. Mamata Banerjee s Trinamool Congress is ahead in West Bengal, where BJP s Suvendu Adhikari s lead over Mamata Banerjee has reduced by over 3,700 votes in Nandigram. In Tamil Nadu, the opposition DMK is way ahead with 69 per cent of the MLAs of the DMK-Led alliance leading in their respective seats, while the BJP is leading in Assam. AINRC Chief N Rangaswamy, meanwhile, is leading in Puducherry.

NEW DELHI: Counting of votes will be held on Sunday (May 2, 2021) for the high-stakes assembly elections held recently in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, overshadowed by the raging COVID-19 pandemic, as the BJP seeks to consolidate its hold over more states and the Congress along with its allies attempts to regain turf.
The counting of votes will begin at 8 AM and continue late into the night. As many as 1,100 counting observers will watch the process and candidates and agents will have to produce a negative COVID test report or double dose of vaccination certificate to get an entry.

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan is contesting from Coimbatore (South) under Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. The Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief is pitched against Mayura S Jayakumar (Congress), Vanathi Srinivasan (BJP), Abdul Wahab (NTK) and R Duraisamy (AMMK), along with many other independent candidates.
The Coimbatore South seat is showing flip-flops every now and then. Early trends showed Kamal Haasan leading. However, after the second round of counting, MNM chief Kamal Hassan was trailing while Congress Mayur Jayakumar was leading.

Counting of votes began at 8 am on Sunday in Kerala and in the initial rounds Metroman E.Sreedharan of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading in the Palakkad Assembly constituency with over 4,000 votes. Sreedharan was able to bag a sizeable number of postal votes and was able to maintain a lead when the EVMs were opened.
