Good thing for him and everybody else that he crashed on a golf course. Right after he took off from the Santa Monica Airport yesterday afternoon, the plane could be seen flying low as he tried to get back to the airport after engine trouble. The 72yearold ford placed a distress call after the plane lost power. He ended up clipping a few trees and landing hard on the Penmar Golf Course before paramedics got there. Golfers on the course rushed to help, including an orthopedic surgeon. A passenger in the rear seat slumped over, um, in distress belted in. I could smell fuel. We wanted to get him out safely and with the fuel leaking out, i motioned to somebody else at the golf course to put dirt on the fuel so it wouldnt combust and i just wanted to get him out safely so it wouldnt erupt into a fire. It was a public art project put up in 2013 but caltrans has to do some maintenance on the westernspan of the bay bridge. So the lights have to go. We have to take our lights down so they can paint the cables but fortunately we were able to raise enough money to put it back up and at that point, the piece will become permanent. Reporter next january, the lights will be back and thats thanks to a private fundraising campaign. They will become permanent just in time for super bowl 50. Later on this morning, members of the San Francisco symphony will be performing here and we hear they are going to be playing here comes the sun by the beatles.
