Shane Teslik, under cross exam, said he didn’t think it was important to tell police he called Devonna Walker a racial slur before she attacked and assaulted him. He also said he thought calling Walker, a Black woman, the slur would “neutralize” the heated argument between his girlfriend and Walker.
A Cedar Rapids man, who sexually abused an 11-year-old girl for months in 2020, was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He preyed upon her vulnerabilities and tried to turn her against her parents.
A Cedar Rapids man accused of fatally stabbing Devonna Walker last year asked a judge Friday to move his trial out of Linn County because of false and inflammatory social media posts and comments. The judge will rule later.
Trial for Andrew Shaw, accused of hiring two men to kill Chris Bagley in 2018, has been bumped to Jan. 23. Shaw had demanded his speedy right to trial.
