WARREN Two Trumbull County defendants were in Common Pleas Court Thursday, each facing charges of assaulting a peace officer.
A former Trumbull Correctional Institution inmate was arraigned on accusations he spit at a prison guard, while a Hartford woman pleaded guilty to charges dealing with an incident in her backyard where she is accused of shooting off an AK-47.
Lonnie D. Engle III, 26, pleaded not guilty on the third-degree felony charge, which could send him back to prison for a maximum of three years. Engle, a former Sandusky resident, told Judge Ronald J. Rice he was just released from prison April 1 after serving three-and-a-half years for a felonious assault charge out of Erie County. Engle was accused of spitting at a guard at the Trumbull Correctional Institution on July 22, 2020, and was brought to the Trumbull County jail upon his release from prison, records show.
