The University of South Carolina launched an effort to commemorate the achievements of Black students and professors who desegregated the campus in during the post-Civil War Reconstruction era.
“In a particularly volatile political climate, it is incredibly disheartening to know that the university would attempt to cut (the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs) crucial work,” a letter posted by the Association of African American Students read.
