LEWISTOWN - The body of a Vermont man was recovered from a pond west of Astoria Friday morning.
Henry Umphryes, 62, was reported missing by friends on Wednesday. Umphryes vehicle had been found on a property west of Astoria, and fishing items were found on a nearby pond.
Umphryes friends and the farmers of the property worked to removed the ice on the pond so that the Mason County ESDA dive team could launch a boat with sonar on Friday. Umphryes body was recovered shortly before 10 a.m., and Fulton County Coroner Steve Hines was called to the scene.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police, Astoria Fire and Rescue, Copperas Creek Rescue and Dive Team, and Fulton County EMA also participated in the operation.
