UV/VUV photoprocessing of protonated N-hetero(poly)acenes by Ugo Jacovella, Christopher S Hansen et al

N-heterocycles are suspected to play an important role in the chemical origin of life. Despite their detection in meteorites and in Titan's atmosphere, their extra-terrestrial chemical formation networks remain elusive. Furthermore N-heterocyclics are undetected in the interstellar medium. This paper assesses the photostability of protonated N-hetero(poly)acenes after ultraviolet (UV) and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation. It provides information on their ability to retain the N atom into the cycle to generate larger N-containing species or functionalized N-heterocyles. Protonated N-hetero(poly)acenes were generated using electrospray ionization and injected into a linear ion trap where they were irradiated by radiation of 4.5 to 10 eV using the DESIRS beamline at the synchrotron SOLEIL. The photodissociation action spectra of protonated pyridine, quinoline, isoquinoline, and acridine were measured by recording the photofragment yields as a function of photon energy. The four sy

What causes the deep Earth s most mysterious earthquakes? | Carnegie Institution for Science

The cause of Earth’s deepest earthquakes has been a mystery to science for more than a century, but a team of Carnegie scientists may have cracked the case. New research published provides evidence that fluids play a key role in deep-focus earthquakes which occur between 300 and 700 kilometers below the planet’s surface. The research team includes Carnegie scientists Steven

You daughter work it s 4 o clock. Thank you this is an encore edition of living on Earth. Dirty air hangs around factories and manufacturing plants but some kinds of air pollutants can travel across continents and around the world the major areas at risk are major cities in parts of China and parts of India where the air quality now is you know certainly among the poorest in the world but I always like to say what goes around comes around so it drives home that idea that we re a connected atmosphere right and that what happens in one part of the world impacts other parts of the world also calling in farm animals to help war veterans deal with post-traumatic stress disorder animals don t care about your bad day they re going to come up and I want you to pick me you re like Ok I m feeling really bad right now but I m paying you and me and they don t know the amazing stuff that you re doing for I bet you come through those stories and more as we go.
