good catholic woman. -they had five children, ranging in age from 15 all the way down to 9. we were all into school. my father expected us to get good grades, and we stayed pretty athletic and into sports. hard workers, good parents, kids doing well in school really, not a care in the world. otero: we came to wichita, kansas, in the 70s because my father had retired overseas and was looking for work. he worked on jet engines, and that was the reason the otero family moved here in 1973, was the number of airplane factories we have in wichita. otero: my dad found a job at cook airfield. it was a small, family-owned airfield on the outskirts of wichita, and he was hired as a mechanic. hatteberg: wichita, kansas, was in the middle of america, and nobody locked their doors. it was a great little town to be from.
