Today, the Crenshaw district of South Los Angeles is known as a predominantly Black neighborhood, while Japanese Americans are most commonly associated with Little Tokyo, Sawtelle, Torrance and Gardena. But after World War II, Crenshaw had the largest concentration of Japanese Americans in the continental United States.

The family of Paul Goodman is seeking a life-saving bone marrow match as he battles a recurrence of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Goodman’s family are members of Orange County Buddhist Church in Anaheim. In a letter to the community, the family writes:
“Many of us watched him grow up at the Orange County Buddhist Church (OCBC) playing basketball and participating in many other youth organizations. His love for the community has led him to the current day where he volunteers as a tech advisor for OCBC programs and serves as a counselor for the Los Angeles Buddhist Coordinating Council (LABCC) church camp. Kazumi Schmidgall teaches math at a high school in Arizona. For years she was a Japanese teacher at Arizona Gakuen. She is asking Japanese and Japanese Americans to sign up at the bone marrow donor registry through bethematch.org.
