Switalskis Solicitor firm buys Pryers Solicitors in York

John Durkan, managing director of Switalskis Solicitors which has bought York-based Pryers Solicitors. A YORK-based solicitors firm has been bought for an undisclosed sum. Switalskis Solicitors has expanded its medical negligence and personal injury specialisms with the acquisition of York-based Pryers Solicitors from Pure Business Group. The deal will see about 70 legal specialists and support staff from Pryers become part of the Switalskis group. The business will continue to trade under the Pryers brand from its base in York. Established in 2002, Pryers represents clients across the UK in medical negligence, personal injury, professional negligence claims and financial Court of Protection matters.

Switalskis Solicitors confirmed this week it had acquired York-based Pryers Solicitors from Pure Business Group for an undisclosed sum. The 70 lawyers and support staff from Pryers will become part of the Switalskis group but continued to trade under their existing brand. The move comes after Switalskis bought Doncaster firm Atherton Godfrey in December and creates a business with a combined turnover of £25m and 12 offices across Yorkshire. The enlarged business now employs around 450 people.

Three of Atherton Godfrey’s four partners are becoming directors of Switalskis, with managing partner Don Bird stepping down from the role and joining as a consultant.

The combined Switalskis group will employ 380 staff across 12 offices in West, North and South Yorkshire. Atherton Godrey, based in Doncaster, will continue to trade and act under its existing name, while head of litigation John McQuater, head of PI Diane Parker and head of commercial and property Sarah Naylor join Switalskis as directors.
