U.S.-British-French Air Combat Exercise Switched to Europe for the First Time
The third iteration of Exercise Atlantic Trident began on May 17 and will continue to May 28. It includes fighter jets from the U.S., Britain and France participating in what NATO terms simulated high-spectrum, high-intensity combat operations.
The U.S. is supplying F-35s and F-22s, Britain Typhoons and France Rafale warplanes. The F-35 Lightning II is a stealth multirole combat aircraft that can perform strike missions. The F-22 Raptor is also a fifth-generation stealth fighter.
The two previous Atlantic Trident exercises were held at the Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. As part of moving military personnel and equipment closer to likely battlefields – meaning the borders of Russia – this year’s exercise is being held in Europe, at Air Base 118 in Mont-de-Marsan, France. Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and Dassault Rafale jets have begun flying joint exercises geared at enhancing fourth- and fifth-generation interoperability between the United States and France.

Exercise ‘Atlantic Trident 21’, which will also feature F-35B aircraft from the United Kingdom, is being conducted out of Mont-de-Marsan Air Force Base from 17 to 28 May.
SALT LAKE CITY The Utah National Guard has scheduled live-fire artillery training drills at Camp Williams from Wednesday to Sunday.
The drills are anticipated to be conducted from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., from May 12 to May 16. The Utah National Guard said that weather will be assessed before the trainings are conducted.
Residents from the cities of Bluffdale, Eagle Mountain, Herriman, Lehi, Riverton, and Saratoga Springs were warned that they may hear live-fire shooting due to the proximity to Camp Williams.
