May 10, 2021 - 7:30 PM A roofing company working in Oliver was fined more than $27,000 for failing to ensure its employees had adequate fall protection. WorkSafeBC fined Atlas-Apex Roofing BC Inc. $27,144 on April 9 after an inspector observed one worker near the edge of a roof without a personal fall protection system, according to a report. The employee was working on the flat roof of a commercial building to repair a leak and was exposed to a fall risk of 4.9 metres. WorkSafeBC said in the report that the firm said it was using a control zone system of fall protection but no written fall protection plan had been prepared for the use of the control zone and safety monitor system. Other methods of fall protection were also deemed as providing safer options for the worksite.
