YSRCP never used religion for political gain, says Botcha
Minister for Municipal Administration Botcha Satyanarayana has alleged that the opposition parties are deliberately maligning the image of the YSRCP government over the incidents of idol desecrations and attacks on places of worship.
Addressing a gathering at Upparapalli in Anantapur district after distribution of house site pattas as part of the ‘Jagananna Pedalandariki Illu’ scheme on Monday, the Minister said the YSRCP government had never used religion for political gain and doling out the benefits of all welfare schemes to the beneficiaries irrespective of their political affiliations.
‘Stringent action is not being taken against the accused’
Member of Parliament G.V.L. Narasimha Rao has said the State government’s ham handed-approach towards the culprits involved in desecration of idols in temples is responsible for spurt in attacks on temples.
Mr. Rao told reporters that the State government was ‘indirectly supporting’ the attacks on temples by not taking stringent action against the accused.
“The police have booked Praveen Chakravarthy, but did not charge him under serious offences. Moreover, they have not investigated his role in converting Hindus with the help of foreign funds. The police, instead of arresting the culprits, are now charging BJP supporters who have posted their views on social media. The BJP demands that the State government come out with the number of pastors, and how much the State government is paying them from the taxes collected from the people. I have written to a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah on this issue,’’ said

Cracking the whip, the Prakasam police arrested five more persons from different parts of the State on Monday for allegedly carrying out a ‘ false propaganda’ on the social media in connection with the Singarayakonda Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy arch incident .
The arrests came close on the heels of the police nabbing eight persons, including six scribes on the charge of ‘spreading falsehood’ on the social media and through electronic media, ‘hurting’ the sentiments of devotees based on rumours spread by a local person that the idols of Narasimha Swamy and the mother goddess in the welcome arch were vandalised by unidentified persons on January 5.
