HELENA, Mont. (AP) - After months of tacitly or directly supporting President Donald Trump’s denial of the results of the 2020 election, top Montana Republicans denounced the violence that took over the nation’s Capitol and delayed Congress’ certification of the presidential election for Joe Biden. But one of them doubled down.
Sen. Steve Daines, who sought $5 donations from supporters in November to send campaign staff to Arizona to ensure that state’s ballots were counted correctly, was one of about a dozen senators who said he would challenge the electoral results in several swing states.

HELENA â This week marks a transition for the Lewis and Clark County Commission, as the newest member comes in and an outgoing member steps back.
On Tuesday morning, the county held a swearing-in for newly elected Commissioner Tom Rolfe, of Helena. Rolfe won a seat representing the countyâs District 2 in last monthâs election.
âIâve spent a lot of time going to meetings, trying to understand budgets, trying to understand the operation of the county, talking to people who have concerns,â he said. âNow I get to take those areas of concern and the background that Iâve developed and put it to work for the people of Lewis and Clark County.â

MISSOULA â Two Flathead Lake parcels are one step closer to becoming public property, and now itâs just a matter of money.
On Monday, the Montana Land Board unanimously approved the Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) purchase of the 15-acre Montebello Fishing Access Site near Dayton and the 106-acre Somers Beach State Park near Somers. The Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission approved both purchases during its Oct. 22 meeting.
