A rare Super Blue Moon, the closest full Moon of the year, has dazzled stargazers around the world. The celestial event occurred on August 30, on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Full Moons have a different name depending on what month they fall in and how many times. Despite its name- Blue Moon, the Moon does not appear blue, rather the term denotes a second full Moon occurring within a month. August 30 Blue Moon was also a Supermoon, which occurs when the Moon is not only full but also at its closest to Earth, so appears bigger and brighter in the sky.
