1. The Tubes, Jergel s Rhythm Grille, Jan. 24.
Over-the-top theatrics on a stage everyone easily could touch, performed by a veteran rock band firing on all cylinders, made this an epic night of fun. The Tubes sounded sharp on their hits ( She’s a Beauty,” Talk to Ya Later ) and equally wonderful on album cuts like “Mondo Bondage” “What Do You Want from Life” and “White Punks on Dope. They gave ceaselessly entertaining frontman Fee Waybill excuses to stomp around in zany costumes, such as his drug-hazed, high-heeled, giant glam-rocker Quay Lude.
2. Tedeschi Trucks Band, UPMC Events Center, Feb. 19.
Such a tasty stew of soul, blues and rock served by the 12-member band co-fronted by guitar dazzler Derek Trucks and his powerful piped, fellow guitar ace/wife Susan Tedeschi. One of those nights that could have gone on till morning without anyone leaving their seat.
