Russian President Vladimir Putin has gifted North Korean leader Kim Jong-un a Russian-made car, Pyongyang’s state media said on Tuesday, as the two countries bolster ties in areas from tourism to defence.

The Russian-made car was delivered to Kim for his ‘personal use’, North Korea’s state-run KCNA says.

The gift would violate successive rounds of UN sanctions on the North over Kims nuclear and other weapons programmes -- which were passed with Russian approval -- that ban the import of any vehicles or luxury goods into the country.

Vladimir Putin gave Kim Jong-un a luxury car after Pyongyang supplied ballistic missiles and ammunition for Moscow’s war against Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin knows how to spoil an ally, sending North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un a Russian-made luxury car for his personal collection.

The two countries have forged closer ties since Kim and Putin met in September and pledged to promote exchanges in all areas as their international isolation deepened over Russia's war in Ukraine and North Korea's nuclear weapons development

North Korea's Kim Jong Un apparently liked Vladimir Putin's limousine so much on a visit to Russia that Putin has given him one.

The Kremlin says it was an Aurus, a full-sized sedan of the type used by the Russian president himself.
