North-east town to host egg-stra special event this Easter The Duchess of Fife A north-east town is treating local communities with a special event this Easter. A series of hand-decorated eggs have been created by 12 north-east artists and placed around Chapelton, ready for residents and local visitors to find. A map of the Easter egg hunt can be seen in Hume Square in the centre of the town or downloaded from the Chapelton website. The eggs will be ready to find from Saturday, April 3 to Sunday, April 18. And following the event, will be auctioned with all proceeds being donated to Grampian Autistic Society.

Children and young people who attend a north-east play scheme have received a range of sensory gifts as part of a seasonal appeal. Grampian Autistic Society held a Christmas gift appeal over the festive period after its annual party had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. Thanks to money raised from the appeal, young people have recently been given a range of gifts from the charity, including puffer balls, chewy necklaces and bubble blower frogs.

COVID will not stop a local company from putting on an amazing show in a bid to spread some joy. Every year Wrexham and District Panto Company put on a show during February half term with all profits going to local charities in and around Wrexham who desperately need support. This year more than ever charities need a bit of extra help in supporting people in the community. However, with the Covid-19 pandemic ongoing, a new and creative way to provide a panto was made. A fundraising page has also been launched with a target of £500 which will be distributed back into the community.

Maghaberry prisoners Christmas gift for autistic children | Latest Newry News, Newry Sport and Newry Business for Newry City

    Maghaberry Prison Deputy Governor, David Savage, recently visited the Newtownards Branch of the National Autistic Society to present a cheque for £5,185, proceeds of prisoners’ recycling and catering fundraising efforts.     He also delivered a number of Christmas trees made out of recycled wood, for families involved with the Autistic Society. Prisoners throughout the maximum-security facility were involved in recycling plastic cups and electrical waste during the pandemic, while others made tray bakes which were sold to staff. During a barbeque lunch hosted by prisoners to mark Hidden Heroes Day, staff also generously contributed to a charity collection.     David Savage said, “Prisoners at Maghaberry have shown great enthusiasm and imagination with initiatives during the Covid pandemic to support the community, and as a result, I am delighted to present a cheque for this fantastic amount of money to the Autism Society.
