Galesburg Police on Saturday morning (September 3rd) were dispatched to the 100 block of Illinois Avenue for a report of theft. Officers met with a project manager for American Val-You Home Improvement who said an employee borrowed a work truck on Thursday, August 25th. The employee was supposed to return the truck on Friday, August 26th, but it wasn't returned until Tuesday, August 30th. When the project manager went to start the truck, it was noticeably louder. It was then discovered the catalytic converter was stolen from the truck. The manager checked the area, and Jay's Auto Salvage in Knoxville had security video of the 27-year-old employee bringing the catalytic converter in for salvage. When the manager spoke to the employee on the phone, he said "you stole my catalytic converter and you're going to jail." The now-former employee's response was "ok." According to police reports, the case was being forwarded for further investigation. The
