CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill.—Across the country a wave of strikes has grown to tsunami proportions with some 300,000 workers now out on strike and walking the picket lines.

The US United Auto Workers (UAW) dispute rages on with Ford, General Motors (GM) and Stellantis (who subsumed Chysler), having entered its fourth week. The strikes remain highly targeted, with the union leadership dictating the strategy of which shops can enter the fold, and when, resulting still in only small fraction of the union membership being out on strike. Longer term, this could damage democracy in the union.

FREMONT, Calif.—The “N’ word, in variations, has been used many times daily at the Tesla facility here. Racial stereotyping is used against workers who are openly called “shiftless” “late” or “lazy.” Workers have been called “boy” or “monkey” or worse.
