SF IndieFest, which runs Feb. 8 through 18, was launched by a few people who decided that San Francisco was lacking a film festival embracing the edgy, the rebellious, and the unexpected.

Today, songwriter/storyteller/farmer ISMAY releases their captivating new album Desert Pavement. Desert Pavement (produced by Andrew Marlin of Watchhouse) is a collection of alternative American roots music, featuring lush folk songs that embody the sound of the New American West. Avery Hellman possesses an affable alto that’s quirky, as is the perspective from which Hellman writes. Hellman, whose grandfather founded the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival, is the rural California singer-songwriter behind the musical moniker ISMAY and the new album “Desert Pavement,” a captivating set with indeterminate antecedents. Hellman and producer/multi-instrumentalist Andrew Marlin create rich colors and hazy atmospherics in a sweet and savory mix.

Desert Pavement (directed by Andrew Marlin of Watchhouse) is a collection of alternative American roots music, featuring lush folk songs that embody the sound of the New American West.

Songwriter/storyteller/farmer ISMAY will release a new album entitled Desert Pavement, out January 26, 2024. Desert Pavement is a collection of transcendent American roots songs, full of folky textures and alt-country stylings that invokes a variety of traditional and contemporary sounds. Desert Pavement follows ISMAY’s critically acclaimed 2020 debut Songs of Sonoma Mountain and continues their lyrical exploration of life spent on the land.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass announces a second round of artists for their highly anticipated 2023 return to San Francisco’s, Golden Gate Park, September 29-October 1 including Kurt Vile & The Violators, Lilly Hiatt, Nora Brown w/Stephanie Coleman, Lucero, The Travelin’ McCourys, Chuck Prophet & The Mission Express, Buffalo Nichols, Beth Orton, Mighty Poplar and Carrie Rodriguez.
