Making a difference on the International Women’s Day and braving sea waters, 40 girls from different educational institutions in Udupi went for kayaking between Malpe Beach and St. Mary’s Island on Monday.
The 40 girls kayaked from the beach to the island, which is about 4 km away, in about 75 minutes. They took rest for few minutes on the island and returned back to the beach.

Officials headed by Udupi Deputy Commissioner resolves some issues on the spot in Nalkur village
The pilot of the ‘Hallige Nadeyiri Jilladhikarigale; programme in Udupi district witnessed good response on Saturday with the administration receiving 147 applications in Nalkur village with some of them getting addressed on the spot.
Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesha led officials to the village for the pilot programme that would be emulated elsewhere in the State from next month. Beginning his visit from the government high school in Nalkur, Mr. Jagadeesha interacted with students and teachers before planting fruit-bearing tree saplings. He interacted with SSLC students and coaxed them to face the examination without any fear.

AAA Some villagers in various parts of the State expressed their grievances with the authorities by boycotting the gram panchayat elections on Tuesday.
People of three panchayats in Sakleshpur boycotted the elections opposing the implementation of the K. Kasturirangan report. There was no polling in Heggadde, Hettur, and Hongadahalla gram panchayats.
Similarly, in Mudigere taluk, the residents of two villages Malemane and Megur boycotted the polls alleging that the State government had not provided proper relief to flood victims.
In coastal Karnataka, there were no contestants in the 12-seat Kodi Gram Panchayat, which falls under Brahmavar taluk in Udupi district. The villagers boycotted the polls on two issues and ensured that no one filed nomination papers. Kodi Gram Panchayat under Brahmavar taluk in Udupi district where elections had been scheduled in the first phase on Tuesday did not go to the polls as there were no candidates in the fray in the entire panchayat.
People in the 12-member panchayat boycotted the polls on two issues and ensured that there were no candidates in the fray. Among the issues one is related to the non-grant of title deeds and the other is linked to the delay in the construction of a fisheries jetty on the backwaters of Seethanadi river.
