Aba Power Ltd, a subsidiary of Geometric Power, will start to supply power from one of its three turbines to consumers in the Aba Ring-fenced Area this weekend rather than in two weeks as originally scheduled.

Aba Power Limited, a subsidiary of Geometric Power Plant, is billed to commence 24-hour power supply to about 9 out of 17 local government areas in Abia State.

Sam Amadi, former chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), says he did not work with anyone to delay the Aba project.

As the nationwide electricity crisis deepens, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reduced electricity supply to the Aba Ring-fenced area by more than 50 percent.   SaharaReporters gathered from sources close to Aba Power that the reduction started last week, with supplies dropping from 25 Megawatts to 10MW without any official explanation or apology.   Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Aba Power, Patrick Umeh, confirmed the drastic reduction in a telephone interview.

The former Minister of Power, Prof Bart Nnaji has accused diesel suppliers and generator dealers of sabotaging the efforts of the government and power distribution companies in providing steady electricity to Nigerians. Nnaji spoke Wednesday while speaking as a guest on Flo 94.9 FM Umuahia on the programme called ‘South East Political Roundtable’.

An official said the state government would investigate the alleged extortion when a formal report had been received.

They alleged that in spite of epileptic power supply, the APL was trying to run them out of business with estimated bills.
