In a big setback for Patanjali Ayurved, co-owned by yoga guru Ramdev, the Supreme Court has issued a contempt notice to the company for issuing misleading advertisements. It has also pulled up the Centre for not taking action.

Patanjali Baba Ramdev: The Supreme Court issued notices to Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishnan of Patanjali Ayurved, asking them why contempt proceedings should not be started for violating court orders. The Indian Medical Associations plea accuses them of defaming evidence-based medicine. The SC criticized the government for inaction and restrained Patanjali from marketing products claiming to cure ailments.

A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah criticised Central government for not tackling misleading advertisements despite the writ having been filed in 2022.

The order came on a plea filed by the Indian Medical Association accusing Patanjali of carrying out a smear campaign against modern medicine and vaccination.
