She defeats Satish Jarkiholi to become the first woman to be a Lok Sabha member from the constituency
The BJP won the Belagavi Lok Sabha bypoll by 5,240 votes. BJP candidate Mangala Angadi, wife of the former Union Minister Suresh Angadi, defeated Satish Jarkiholi, Congress nominee in a close fight.
Ms. Angadi polled 4,40,327 votes, while the runner-up [Satish Jarkiholi] obtained 4,35,087 votes. The grand total includes postal votes, votes mailed in by service voters, those cast by officers on poll duty and the disabled and COVID-19 voters.

Support for farmers’ ‘rasta roko’ call in north Karnataka

AAA In the wake of the call for nationwide road blockade given by farmers seeking repeal of the three new farm laws, farmers’ organisations in Dharwad district plan to stage a rasta roko expressing solidarity with the agitation in New Delhi.
The road blockade will be staged under the banner of Samyukta Horata Samiti on the national highway bypass near Dharwad on Saturday.
Laxman Jadagannavar, district committee member of Raitha Krishi Karmikara Sanghatane (RKKS), said on Friday that various organisations of farmers as well as progressive and Dalit groups would participate in the agitation and block the NH-4 Bypass Road near Yarikoppa from noon to 3 p.m.

Members of various organisations accompanied by farmers took out a tractor rally in Dharwad on Tuesday seeking repeal of the new farm laws.
Farmers and pro-farmers organisations along with members of different political parties took out tractor rallies and also bullock cart and motorcycle rallies in various districts of Bombay Karnataka on Tuesday in support of the ongoing farmers agitation in New Delhi seeking repeal of the new farm laws.
Tractor rallies were taken out in Dharwad, Hubballi, Haveri and other places, with hundreds of farmers assembling in large numbers and participating in the rallies. Through the peaceful protests, the farmers and members of the Opposition parties demanded immediate withdrawal of the new farm laws, which, they said, were against the interests of farmers.
