against police officers during this chase. he would not confirm he could not confirm that those were actual explosive devices being used. but they suspected that they may have been. as a result, they were being very cautious in their movements in the streets around the neighborhood. then shortly then a little bit later, after and i had mentioned earlier that the police had removed the original suspect from the vehicle. when the fbi arrived, the fbi appeared to photograph him and question him for five to ten minutes. they put him back in the back of the vehicle. then another individual was brought out of nowhere, it seems. it was very dark. i couldn t exactly see what he looked like. it was hard to see through the view finder even. but we weren t nobody was sure what the relation to this first suspect was of the second individual. they took him away and there was not much fanfare around this second individual. i mentioned to drew earlier that several neighbors in the area
they all just went. people went knowing that could blow? that s their job. when other people are running away, by nature, our job is to run towards what people are running away from because we we have to we have to do what we have to do. by nature, that s what we do. it s also important, i think, that people realize because of the first responders who went there, you and the others who realize, you know what, we need to start evacuating folks out of here, that saved lives. the fires were burning before that explosion. and before the explosion, people started to get evacuated. we did our best to get people out of the area. in the beginning it was just a fire. and not going into too much operation detail because i can t disclose that at this point in
we are about two blocks away, right now, we re in the back bay area of boston, two blocks away from the site of the boston marathon bombings, the terrorist attacks. again, as jake reiterated right now, public transportation is closed. you will not be able to get in or out of boston on subway or bus. in the surrounding towns people are being told to stay at home. businesses will remain closed, and the reason is because someone very dangerous on the loose right now. as many as 9,000 law enforcement personnel right now searching for this man in the area. this all started last night, 5:00, with the release of two photos of the suspect at the finish line of the boston marathon. later that evening there were shoot-outs, a police chase, officer at m.i.t. killed, another transportation officer wounded. suspect number one taken to the hospital and died. now there is this manhunt under way. dramatic, breaking developments.
as i said a few minutes ago, if they are not related, if the two men are in custody are not the people we re looking for from the terrorist attacks on monday, we will know that very, very quickly. they took photographs of one of the individuals. they took a picture of one of the individuals, presumably, that was to see if there is a match between him and the individuals who are being sought in relationship right. at least one is still being sought. that s important to know because they have no no one has any desire to work the city up again. it s been a very, very long week for the city. but what is unusual is the amount of weaponry, bombs, explosives that you re reporting about that s been ongoing in watertown, a very small suburb and started in cambridge. that is unusual. that is something that this area has not seen. the fact that people are thinking they re related or the fact that there is this massive
scene and now you re in in area where a manhunt is going on. where exactly are you right now? now, i went over to the to a staging area, a did he facto staging area in the parking lot of the watertown mall which is roughly half a mile from where the crime scene is. this entire area is now cordoned off by police also. there are police checkpoints at a number of places just along the street. and it s really, really striking. it s an incredibly residential neighborhood. one of the things about boston, because it is such a small city, is that you can go from being essentially downtown to being what is for all intents and purposes a suburb in a matter of miles. that s exactly the situation you have here. to see s.w.a.t. teams, to see police walking around with
