"It definitely impacted our business," DeAngelis said. "Were definitely happy with the response." The event was canceled last year because of the onset of COVID-19, which brought restrictions on crowd sizes and indoor dining. Lawlor said although he knew the crowds and impact may not be as large this year as in the past, he thought it was important to give restaurant owners and enthusiasts a chance to make it worth it. "Maybe this is a chance to reinvigorate the kind of the local food scene...

The Back Nine comes at you after a trip to St. Augustine to see my dad and get a surprise gift from my brother. More on that later. 10. We usually lean to the Gators to lead off this column, but it is impossible for anyone not to be talking about what Sunday was and that the Super Bowl two hours from Gainesville will include the home team for the first time ever. (Interesting, too, that all three Andy Reid Super Bowls have been in the state of Florida). There were so many Tom Brady age referenc...

10. Texas A&M. No Gators? To me, Florida is one of the biggest mysteries in college football next season. I’m not sure how the offense will look and we all know the defense has to be better after being historically bad in 2020. Grantham can blame it on the pandemic as a lot of coaches did, but this defense must be better (a ton better) for Florida to be great. Kyle Trask isn’t around to bail the Gators out anymore. 13. Anything I can say about the basketball team’s performance in Starkvil...

The Front Nine is a new feature here on WRUF.com (veterans will remember that when the Back Nine started years ago, it was called the Front Nine, and now you are getting confused). So here we go with a look ahead to the weekend, but also a look back at a somewhat completed football season. 1.If there is one thing that I would like to see from Florida’s football team in the fall and going forward, it would be that the Gators understood the accountability of Alabama. Nick Saban runs a tight shi...

The Back Nine comes at you after a weekend that was a little too sloth-like with all of the games that were on. On the other hand, it was fun, especially watching a game on Nickelodeon. 10. With all the NFL that was on, I was still able to spend some time thinking about next year for Florida football and, yes, sometimes I should be asking my wife if there is anything I can do instead of hovering over the computer. Anyway, that’s another story. What I was doing was trying to figure out the ove...

The Back Nine comes at you after a wonderful Christmas, although the one thing I wished for I didn’t get – transparency in the SEC when it comes to officiating. Bah, humbug! 10. As we head down the road to the end of 2020, I think it is important to remind everybody that the virus doesn’t have a calendar. We’re still living day-to-day, including the distraction of sports because we have no idea what tomorrow will bring. It has seemed awfully strange (ooh, Moody Blues reference coming ...

The Back Nine comes at you after a Championship Saturday that included a show we have seen before. I’m looking at you, defense. 10. Now that this wild and crazy college football season is basically over in Gainesville (bowl games are just pretend games made for TV, especially in 2020), I think it is important even in the rubble left behind to appreciate what we just saw. The SEC played 97 percent of its games and Florida played 100 percent of its games. There was no shortage of content on TV ...
