Apr 15, 2021 - known as the Back The Blue Bill - passed the Iowa House last night 63-30. The series of changes came in response to the trouble on Iowa streets last summer.
If the Senate passes the Bill and the Governor signs it, it will make rioting a felony and will increase penalties for blocking streets and highways, destroying public property and criminalizes aiming lasers at police.
Representative Jared Klein voiced what a lot of people have been saying: What we ve seen is not peaceful protesting. What we ve seen is destruction and damage in our communities.
Democrats don t like it: I think this bill unnecessarily pits law enforcement against groups like Black Lives Matter and other protesters, said Rep. Christina Bohannan.
