Volunteers help NASA spot one of the reddest space objects ever found, similar to Jupiter. NASA's planet-finding project called 'The Backyard Worlds: Planet 9' just saw one the of "reddest" objects ever seen in space thanks to the keen vision of its volunteers! Citizen scientists are joining astronomers to use NASA's flagship telescope to learn more about these "failed stars."

Citizen science is an increasingly valuable and legitimate scientific tool where the general public become actively involved in scientific research.

Bringing joy with their dazzling beauty, the first images from the James Webb Space Telescope also reflect ingenuity – revealing new layers of the cosmos.

It's not just the pros that can make massive contributions to astronomy. And you could too.

A citizen scientist investigated NSF's NOIRLab's library of 4 billion celestial objects, NOIRLab Source Catalog DR2, to discover brown dwarfs with

"This amazing result clearly demonstrates that NOIRLab's data archive has a reach far beyond that of professional astronomers."

A citizen scientist used old telescope data to find a trove of binary star systems that include what are sometimes dubbed failed stars.

Planet 9: “You kill a planet, then you go out and find a new one” After more than two decades deciphering some of the theoretical mysteries of the solar system, Professor Mike Brown is finally about to experience something tangible that had eluded him to date: an actual rocket being fired into space. “It’s my first launch, which is hard to believe,” says Brown from the house he has rented […]

A brown dwarf is an astronomical object that is an intermediate between a planet and a star
