Ryan Palmeter of Orange Park was identified by a local reporter as the suspect accused in a racist mass shooting at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida.

Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan confirmed Saturday that there are a “number of fatalities” in response to the shooting on Kings Road near Canal Street in Northwest Jacksonville, according to Local 10 sister station WJXT.

There is heavy police presence located near King Street and North Canal Street on Jacksonville's Westside.

Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said four people, including the shooter, are dead in the racially motivated attack at Dollar General on Kings Road.

The shooter, described by police as a white man in his early 20s, first went to the campus of Edward Waters University.

The gunman who killed three people at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday had earlier been turned away from the campus of a historically Black university – just blocks away from the site of the shooting that targeted Black people, authorities said.
